Archontiko, a beautiful aristocratic detached house, is centrally located in Potamos only 50 metres from the town square with its terraces, shops and tavernas. The house is surrounded by a large garden with flowers, fruit trees and shady spots so that you feel as though you are in the countryside.
Archontiko is Greek for mansion and the impressive house built in 1836 is worthy of its name. You will be impressed by the original details and traditional elements. The owners designed their house – which has been owned for many generations by the same family – with an eye for detail and good taste.
Via the gate and garden you will reach the spacious veranda with the main entrance and its beautifully decorated original doorframes. On this first floor are located the very large living room (with two couches that can be transformed into single beds), a separate dining room, a bedroom (with double bed), the bathroom and kitchen.
An interior wooden staircase will lead you to the ground floor with a second apartment. It has an open plan kitchen and living area (with single bed) that is separated by an arch from the bedroom (with double bed) and bathroom.
The large and well maintained garden has many hidden spots and quiet corners. Imagine having breakfast underneath the apricot tree, lunch on the shady terrace near the kitchen and in the evening a lovely barbecue in the former stable that the owners have transformed into a cosy and open area. Everything is possible in Archontiko’s garden!
Archontiko can host seven guests. It is the ideal holiday home for a family or for a group of friends.
With a stay in Potamos you will submerge yourselves in Greek village life. Around the village square there is a bakery, a butcher shop, a small super market and some nice kafeneia and restaurants. Potamos also provides a post office and an ATM.
Every Sunday morning locals and visitors come together at the market on the village square. It is a traditional and colourful market where islanders sell their local products and have done so for hundreds of years. A visit to this market cannot be missed during your stay on Kythira.
Potamos is an ideal base for discovering the island due to its central location.
