Dekapentismou

Dekapentismou – literraly translated: period of 15 days, which starts on August 1st until August 15th, the Assumption of Virgin Mary. During Dekapentismou, many people visit Kythira’s most important monasteries, Agia Moni and Panagia Myrtidiotissa. Some pilgrims stay for a few days in one of the monastery cells in order to find inner rest and to worship Mary. In many other churches, extra services are held. Like yesterday during the Aroniadika-walk, when I visited the Osios Theodoros monastery. Normally, this beautiful church is opened especially for the tour but now, entering the monastery grounds, we heard psalm singing. Priest Petros led the service for only a very few villagers from nearby Pitsinades. It was very impressive. We continued our walk towards the Agios Ilias Church, where we enjoyed a fantastic sunset.
